happy birthday!

to my dear dad,

on your birthday, i wanted to take a moment to say thank you for being such a wonderful dad to me!

thank you for letting me sit on your lap when i was little while you mowed the grass with the riding lawn mower.
thank you for teaching me the "right" way to ski (and for making me wear a helmet too).
thank you for coming and taping every single dress rehearsal of my senior show (and for sleeping in the car while we practiced the dance steps).
thank you for staying up all night to build my swing set.
thank you for being such a great role model.
thank you for constantly telling me "where there's a will, there's a way."
thank you for making me english muffin pizzas when i was little.  although that may be your only "specialty" in the kitchen, i sure did love those english muffin pizzas!
thank you for your "daddy jokes" and for giving me my sense of humor.
thank you for stringing christmas lights up around my bedroom while i studied for my driver's permit test before my 16th birthday.  (i love that those christmas lights are still there.)
thank you for always hearing me out.
thank you for making me go to college.
thank you for introducing me to the electric toothbrush.
thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and letting me shine.
thank you for being the most thorough proof reader ever.
thank you for always having my back.
thank you for being the best father a girl could ever ask for!

happy birthday, papa!
love, laurie
xoxo

Oh god, I'm crying.

I have to admit I haven’t been keeping up with this blog, although I should have been because there are many good posts and pictures here (Halloween, the early snowstorm, cooking, and food . . . LOTS of good food!). Although I’m not a blog person myself (it might be an age thing), I wanted to say something here today to Laurie. I had sent this to Laurie in a separate email message (along with more), but I want the “World” to know what I think of my very special daughter: There aren’t very many things at all that bring me to tears, but I’m sitting here crying having just read your post to Papa on “Love-Laurie.” These are not tears of sadness . . . these are tears of love, pride, and happiness for the wonderful, caring person who I get to call “My Daughter.” This would have made my day on any day, but it was especially good timing today, after last night’s difficult shift at work. It is every parent’s wish (every parent that cares, that is), to have children who grow up to be good, responsible adults. I am so enormously proud of the person you have always been, and of the person you are today. When I come out of the shower and see those two baby pictures of you in white (on top of the hutch on the upstairs landing), I think of you in white again on your wedding day . . . and that all brings a smile to me. Your birthday post to me brought back many, many good memories. You’re an extremely important part of my life, and I appreciate all you do. With much love, PAPA
