it was mighty cold and very snowy while we were in nyc this weekend. so, after lunch on saturday, we decided to stop into the city bakery to warm up with a cup of their famous hot chocolate.
the city bakery is a nyc landmark, and the hot chocolate at the city bakery is serious business. this isn't your average cup of cocoa for sure. the city bakery combines dark chocolate and milk chocolate for a velvety rich hot chocolate that is unforgettable. it is thick and creamy, and you would swear that they just melted down a chocolate bar and put it in your cup.
i'm usually skeptical when it comes to hot chocolate because i don't like it to be too sweet, and most tend to be sickeningly sweet. but not this one. it's a bit tart and not sweet at all, without being bitter. it is all natural and it is so good. as if that's not enough, the city bakery tops off their hot chocolate with a giant homemade marshmallow. pure perfection.
the folks at the city bakery sure know what they're doing when it comes to hot chocolate. they even host a hot chocolate festival every february!
cbs news ranked their hot chocolate among the five best cups of hot chocolate in nyc, and new york magazine said "what katz's is to pastrami, city bakery is to hot chocolate." that's quite the compliment.
if you're in nyc and in need of a pick-me-up in the form of hot chocolate, be sure to check out the city bakery! you won't be disappointed!
love, laurie
