the fifth and final port of call on our caribbean cruise was st. maarten. st. maarten is so unique because it is the caribbean's smallest island shared by two nations. one side of the island is dutch, and one side of the island is french.
our cruise ship docked on the dutch side of the island. we took a guided tour which drove us around the dutch side of the island and then over to the french side of the island. on the french side, we stopped at orient bay beach (which turned out to be a clothing optional beach!) for some swimming. it was super windy, which made perfect conditions for the many wind surfers who were on the beach that day.
after swimming at orient bay, we drove back to the dutch side of the island and swam at great bay. we also walked the boardwalk along great bay beach too. even though it was overcast, cool, and rainy while we were in st. maarten, we still had a great time and really enjoyed the island!

I always love the turquoise water of the Caribbean. In the one picture I almost thought I saw the waves moving. Or is that wishful thinking. I do recognize the St. Marrten sign.
