hiking the seven tubs

the weather was so incredibly warm on monday for memorial day.  we had the day free, so we decided to get out and enjoy the summer weather.  for several years, ryan has heard of a place called the seven tubs and he has been interested in checking it out.  so, we made the half-hour drive on monday to explore what it was all about.

a continuously-flowing stream of glacial melt water (called wheelbarrow run) flows through a ravine where a series of natural tubs were gouged out of the sandstone over 12,000 years ago.  the result is a beautiful cascade of water with seven pools along the way.  it looked like nature's version of a lazy river ride that you would find at a water park!

there is a hiking path that follows the tubs up the mountain.  it's steep, slippery, and really narrow in some spots, but it's pretty neat to be right along side of the waterfalls flowing into the tubs.  it was downright scary how close to the edge you could get.  i find it amazing that more people haven't been injured there!

you can't tell from these photos, but it was actually really crowded there since it was memorial day and the weather was so nice.  people were all over the place, hiking, swimming in the pools, and jumping off the waterfalls.  (watching people jump off rocks into shallow water always makes me nervous!)  luckily we managed to get several photos without people in them.  it sure was pretty to watch the water, and the views were amazing!
