saturday brunch

it was so nice to be able to have a saturday free this weekend to get together with our families for brunch.  no shows, concerts, events, work . . . yay!  such a nice treat.

silly kittens

this image popped up on facebook and i thought it was funny.  leko always sleeps in the craziest positions.  i think he does all of these poses except for "the sploot."  

ryan's family recently found this video of a cat who tried to remake the bed after a little kitten messed up the sheets.  i don't think leko would ever make the bed.  he does like to jump in it when we make the bed though!

this guy . . .

this guy was so excited that we were actually home last night and not at a rehearsal or a show!  he wasted no time jumping up on ryan's lap and napping in the cutest positions!  he positively melts our hearts!

he's also very sneaky, because at one point i thought he was sleeping and looked down to find him licking my dessert off the side of my plate!

we survived "merrily we roll along"

that's a wrap on "merrily we roll along" and i'm thrilled that we survived.  it was a massive show and thankfully the performances went well.  now we have a second to breathe before the next batch of shows.

a much-needed day off

oh my goodness, i'm so glad that work is closed today for the presidents' day holiday because i desperately need a day off after this crazy whirlwind of a musical in order to cuddle up leko, do some laundry, and get some sleep!

opening night

tonight is opening night for the university's musical that we've been working on nonstop for weeks.  we're exhausted and so relieved that the show is finally here.  fingers crossed that everything goes okay.

i think everyone thinks i'm nuts when i talk about how insane costume designing this musical has made me.  i have tracked charts for each character and every single item that relates to wardrobe as it moves throughout the show.  (good thing i'm an organized person!)  just to prove i'm not completely nuts, i did the math.

today is national random acts of kindness day.  what a pleasant thing to celebrate (especially since i've encountered several unkind people this week).  

aesop once said "no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."  keep that in mind today.

tech week

it's tech week for the musical which means that every morning has been an early one and every night has been a late one . . . and we have several days left of this crazy schedule.  tech week (which is really more like 3 weeks, not one week) also means that the stage deck looks like someone dropped a bunch of ice cream sprinkles because there are so many spike marks, and my fingers are raw from sewing so many snaps on shirts for quick changes.

happy valentine's day

i love this photo from valentine's day several years ago.  those two boys are my valentines.  

we'll be taking a raincheck on any sort of valentine's day celebration because we're in tech week and putting in full days everyday to pull off this musical by opening day on friday.  what i'd really like to do today is crawl back into bed!

four years!

tomorrow is my four year work anniversary of running the theatre and i swear it feels like way more than four years (but in a good way).

my job sure is crazy, but i do love it and i'm very grateful to be able to do it!

when mom and dad finally come home after working long shifts on the upcoming musical you absolutely jump on their laps to pin them down so that they can't possibly think about leaving the house again!

sneak peek

we're rolling along working on the musical "merrily we roll along" at the university where we work.  this one is a huge production and we've been working on it for weeks.  i'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the costume design and ryan is making good progress on the set, props, lights, and sound.  

it's hard to believe that we have less than 2 weeks left to go!

the face of a kitten who was not amused to find out that his parents were leaving the house bright and early monday morning after a weekend full of working shows and not being home.

"charlie and the chocolate factory"

i spent this weekend in the theatre working the national broadway tour of "charlie and the chocolate factory."  i was on wardrobe for the show call of this show and had a track of three actresses to dress.  

i'm totally exhausted and and it was a whirlwind of four shows back-to-back, but i survived!

think warm happy thoughts

i would rather ignore the february weather forecast and think warm happy thoughts about this beach from our trip to bermuda in 2015.  look at that gorgeous water.  that's so much better than the rain today which is supposed to switch to ice tonight before it switches to snow tomorrow.  

this whole changing of seasons thing is for the birds!  i want to live where it's warm year-round, not just for a few weeks!

who knows what punxsutawney phil will determine this morning depending on whether or not he sees his shadow, but punxsutawney leko is hoping for early spring!  leko's ready for the cold to go away so that it can warm up and he can enjoy his screened-in porch again.

it's so cold outside that leko has to curl up in our laps to stay warm.  we have no complaints about kitten cuddles no matter the temperature!
