spring flowers

i'm not feeling to great this week, so these flowers on the back porch are cheering me up.  the flowers are from ryan's parents from easter sunday.  the containers were a christmas gift from someone at work.  they're labeled herb containers, but worked perfectly for the pansies!

an impromptu taco night

sunday night's dinner turned into an impromptu taco night when my parents stopped over for dinner after a meeting.  i always love a good taco night!

psu scranton's annual spring music concert

on saturday, we had penn state scranton's annual spring music concert at the theatre.  it's been 3 full years since their last performance in 2019 because of the pandemic.  we were happy to have them back and enjoy an afternoon of their choral and band music.  you can see more of my photos from the show on the theatre's facebook page here.

it's bird watching season

now that the weather is warming up, there are more birds in our yard than ever before.  they are especially noisy in the early morning when the sun is coming up.  over the weekend i rolled over and found leko looking out the window at the birdies with his tail resting on ryan's head!

a few snapshots from the easter holiday weekend . . .

a few photos of . . . a 3 mile friday afternoon hike with my parents to soak up the gorgeous weather, easter flowers blooming in my parents' yard, english muffin breakfast "pizzas" for breakfast, trying out a new-to-us japanese restaurant after checking out a new-to-us baby store, and ryan's easter morning breakfast creation of a pineapple upside down dutch baby pancake straight from a cast-iron skillet!

a clean bill of health for kitten!

we kicked off the long easter holiday weekend by taking leko to the vet for his annual check up.  nothing was wrong, we just like him to get checked out each year.  when we make our annual trip to the vet, we always put him on his little harness/leash and then in his kitty taxi just to ensure that he's extra safe and can't escape. 

he did great at the vet's office and got a clean bill of health.  yay!

on the car ride home, he was begging to sit on my lap which is something he used to do regularly in the car when he was younger.  we let him out and he was fascinated by looking out the window and watching ryan drive.  

when we safely came to a stop, ryan snapped a few pictures on his phone.  our little explorer kitten was so happy to be out of the taxi and checking out his chauffeur and chariot.  as soon as we got home he knew it was time to go inside and walked himself right back into his taxi for us to safely carry him back into the house.  he's so smart!

when we zoomed into the second picture we saw that he stuck his tongue out!  so cute!

easter sunday 2022

we had a lovely time celebrating easter yesterday with our families at ryan's parents' house complete with lots of good food, yummy dessert, and mischievous kittens!  hope everyone had a great easter sunday too!

earlier this week marked 20 weeks so we celebrated with the only thing that seemed fitting: ben & jerry's "half baked" ice cream.

we also got to see baby's cute little profile and foot at our 20 week ultrasound!

the official start of dance recital season

we kicked off dance recital season this weekend with a ballet.  it went well, but i'm still exhausted.  let the fun begin for the rest of the dance season!

working the philharmonic

on friday, our local philharmonic spent the day at the university where we work.  ryan had a long day filled with the load in, workshops, master classes, rehearsal, the show, and loading out.  he did a great job with the show!  way to go, ryan!

we were using an old bin to carry some things around from room to room and realized that we didn't know where leko went.  we turned around to find that he claimed the bin as his new bed for the afternoon.  what a silly kitten!

king of the chair

i was sitting in the glider chair the other day and leko jumped up on the chair with me.  i thought it was so sweet that he was going to sit on my lap . . . nope!  he walked around me, nestled his way between my back and the chair, and proceeded to kick me off with his feet!  how rude!  

when i got off the chair he looked up at me like he was king of the chair.  mind you, he has never once sat in this chair in all the time we've owned it.  i had to find another place to sit!

getting a chance to play in the black box

a few weeks ago, when i was reupholstering chairs, i mentioned that ryan and i were helping a student at the university with the set and lighting for her senior capstone show.  

the show revolved around a confessional booth in a church so we helped piece together things for her to make a little set.  we also had some fun with the lighting too to make it look like a church with stained glass windows.

it was fun to help her with her show and it turned out great!

as a thank you gift, she bought us these adorable gobo holder keychains with custom gobos inside with our initials!  it was the cutest thing.  i had no idea anything like these even existed!  

if you're not into lighting like us, gobos are metal templates with patterns cut out and we place them in gobo holders which go into leko lights to project patterns.  we can pair them with gels to color them.  for the student's show, we used several different types of gobos.  we projected the look of stained glass windows onto the floor and projected the look of a circular church window on the cross on the back wall.

kicking off spring dance recital season

i spy ryan way up high in the genie lift hanging backdrops.  it's that time of year again!  we're kicking off the three-month long spring dance recital season this week with a ballet production.  pray for us!

a tribute to styx

on saturday we had a styx tribute band perform at the theatre called "best of times" and i'll be the first to admit that i didn't think i knew many styx songs.  during the show, i realized that i did recognize several songs.  it was a good show and the audience loved it!

happy april!

happy friday and happy april!  i'm not a fan of april fools day jokes/pranks at all, so i'm hoping that everyone is kind today.  i'm hoping that mother nature stops playing jokes on us and finally commits to nice spring weather because i'm really sick of the colder winter-like weather.  leko can't wait to get back out onto his screen porch!
