memorial day 2022

we celebrated memorial day yesterday with our families at ryan's parents' house.  we were all so exhausted, so it was a nice calm indoor picnic since it was so darn hot outside.  we had a lot of fun playing with the kitties too!

sleeping bunny

for his entire life, i've loved watching the positions that leko gets into when he sleeps.  i especially love the sleeping bunny pose with his two front fee pulled up.  he is so adorable!

the simple things

a weekend full of dance recitals

wowza!  it was a long weekend full of dance recitals tech, rehearsals, and performances.  so glad we're getting a little break from the theatre this week until the next set of shows right after memorial day.

hello, irises!

so happy to see that our purple irises are blooming in our yard!  it's always so nice to see the vibrant purple color alongside the garage.  the purple ones always seems to bloom first, followed by the yellow ones.

hearts in the yard

i remember my dad having a bleeding heart bush in the yard when i was growing up and i was always amazed that a plant could produce a heart-shaped flower.  i love having 3 bleeding heart plants in our yard now and every time i see them bloom they make me think of my dad.

my little helper

i was working in the kitchen recently and this little helper just sat in the sink keeping a close eye on me!  such a cute little helper!  for the longest time he was really fixated on a moving sun spot on the floor . . . fascinating!

a busy dance recital weekend

the past 5 days were a busy blur with tech, rehearsals, and performances for 2 different dance recitals.  needless to say, we're starting off this monday morning pretty darn tired!

it looks like spring!

it always takes the flowers in our yard so much longer to bloom compared to the neighbors' yards around us.  we were so happy to finally see some color in the yard this week!  hello, beautiful flowers!  hello, spring!

the school year is over!

the tulips are blooming on campus which always means one thing . . . the spring semester is done and the school year is over!  we submitted our grades for our classes and graduation is this weekend!  looking forward to the campus being much quieter for the next few months!

the cat statues at work got dressed up for mother's day.  seriously too cute.  i just love turning the corner to see what these guys are dressed up as for each holiday!

mother's day 2022

we celebrated mother's day on sunday at our house with our parents.  everyone came over for a tea party brunch and we enjoyed egg casserole, tater tots, a cast-iron skillet pancake with berries, mini mocha chocolate chip muffins, and cinnamon rolls.

we took a walk on a newly opened trail and then later in the day made homemade pizza in the backyard with our pizza oven.  we capped off the evening with a gender reveal ice cream cake (but you'll have to wait a little while longer to find out the baby's gender)!

it was such a nice day to get together, relax, and celebrate!

when leko curls up on the fleece blanket in our basket chair he reminds me of a curled up hedgehog.  so cute!

happy mother's day this weekend to our amazing mamas!  looking at this picture of us with our mamas makes me want to jump right back in that pool!  we're both so grateful for such amazing mamas that we get to call ours!

happy cinco de mayo!

happy cinco de mayo!  we love any excuse to eat mexican food!  two years ago, we had our own little cinco de mayo party for two when everyone was quarantined for the pandemic (pictured above).  

when we're in a hurry, we also love making our recipe for 5 ingredient tacos in 5 minutes.

there's also other fun spins like broccoli guacamole a.k.a. broccomole.

we've also made tamale casserole, baked taquitos, and we make enchiladas vegetarian very frequently.

then there was the year we did a mexican fiesta theme for ryan's birthday complete with a churro cake!

all of this is making me hungry!

clever cookies

yesterday we had a client appreciation day at work.  the clients came to the theatre to have lunch and then watch "the greatest showman."  it's an annual event which we normally do every year at the beginning of may, but we haven't been able to hold the event for the past two years because of the pandemic.  it was a nice afternoon and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.  before the festivities started, all the food was delivered, and i couldn't get over the detail on the greatest showman themed cookies that were ordered!  they were so clever and really tasty too!  glad i snapped a picture before everyone devoured them!

miserable

oh man, i have been absolutely miserable for the past week fighting this stupid cold.  what started out as a sore throat (and the doctor thought might be strep) has morphed into the head cold of a lifetime.  luckily, we know it's not covid since i've been tested several times and it's been negative.  

being sick is always awful, but being sick while pregnant is a whole new level of torture since there's nothing you can safely take.  

i'm relying on kitten cuddles and mom's homemade soup which has enough pepper in it to cure anything i'm sure.

please, universe, please, let this pass soon.  i'm at my wits end of not being able to breathe, a perpetual headache, clogged ears, and the most annoying cough.  i would really like to get some rest without having to blow my nose or cough every 5 minutes!
